What a hazardous-waste handler tells you
Under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), any business that generates, transports, treats, stores, or disposes of hazardous waste must notify the EPA and gets a handler ID. That notification is public, so the universe of hazardous-waste handlers — factories, labs, transporters, treatment sites — is a searchable official record.
This tool searches RCRAInfo by company name and shows the facility name, its city and state, and its generator status. Behind the unlock you get the EPA handler ID, the street address, the facility's roles (large-quantity generator, transporter, treatment/storage/disposal facility), and its NAICS industry code.
Generator status is the field that tells the story. A facility moving up to large-quantity generator (LQG) is producing more regulated waste — often because it's growing or changing process. A new notification is a site that just came onto the regulatory map. Those transitions are the events worth watching.
Why it matters
Generator status and facility role map directly to demand: an LQG needs disposal, transport, compliance, and remediation services at a scale a small generator doesn't. A new or upgraded handler is a timed opening for those vendors.

- Facility
- The site name as notified to the EPA — the physical location that handles the waste, which may differ from the corporate name.

- Generator status
- The volume tier: LQG (large-quantity), SQG (small-quantity), or CESQG/VSQG (very small). Higher tiers mean more regulated waste and more service demand.
- EPA handler ID
- The unique ID for the facility in RCRAInfo — the key for pulling the full regulatory history.
- Handler roles
- Whether the site is a generator, a transporter, and/or a treatment-storage-disposal facility (TSDF). The roles define what it does with waste.
- NAICS code
