What is a RCRA large-quantity generator (LQG)?
A RCRA large-quantity generator (LQG) is a facility that generates 1,000 kg or more of hazardous waste (or more than 1 kg of acute hazardous waste) in a calendar month, subject to the most stringent management and reporting requirements under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
EPA classifies hazardous-waste generators by monthly quantity: LQG, small-quantity generator (SQG), and very-small-quantity generator (VSQG). LQGs face the strictest obligations, including biennial reporting and detailed manifesting.
Generators register with EPA and receive an EPA ID; the handler roster is public via RCRAInfo. LQG status identifies exactly the high-hazard sites that need hazardous-waste hauling, treatment, disposal and compliance services.
