What is CMS Open Payments?
CMS Open Payments (the 'Sunshine Act' database) is a public federal program that discloses payments and transfers of value that drug and device manufacturers make to physicians and teaching hospitals.
Under the Physician Payments Sunshine Act, manufacturers and group purchasing organizations report payments — consulting, speaking, meals, travel, research — to CMS each year. CMS publishes the data, tied to physician NPIs and specialties.
